Maintaining your bike or bikes can be expensive if you rely on the local bike shop for everything so why not invest in a few basic tools and learn how to do some of the basic mechanics yourself. When i started doing this I quickly relisted that I could tackle more than I thought I could, and what is the worst that can happen. You get in a mess and have to take your bike to the local bike shop anyway. But you will have increased your knowledge, even if it is that servicing suspension is a job for the bike shop to do.
Start small, just have a tool box and build up from there.
