There is nothing worse than heading out on your bike to remember when you are 20 miles away from home that your spare inner tube is still on your bench with your phone and money, so no coffee stop for you and if you get a puncture you will not be able to replace the tube or phone your other half or parents to pick you up.
Being prepared before every ride is good practice and helps to eliminate the chances of things going wrong, but if they do go wrong if you are prepared then the issue is quickly resolved and you are back on the road again.
- Always take plenty of food and water
- Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return
- Take extra food for any ride over an hour
- Take a map, GPS if you don’t know the area
- Take a mobile phone and some cash
- Ride carefully and attentively
- Always wear a helmet
- Don’t ride beyond your limits
- Have your bike in good working order?
- Always ride with lights on
- Wear bright clothes
- Be prepared – be a solution not a problem!
